And they love them
I have been collecting moths to feed the fish in the morning.
Above top is a casing that this grub leaves behind when it hatches, today I found one that is just about to hatch into a moth, I feed the moths to the fish they should be full of nutrients and fats which is ideal for the fish coming into the lean time of the year.
When we have heavy rain like we are having at the moment the worms come out of the dirt and onto the track trying to find an escape from the water the fish will love these and I don’t have to dig.
[wpvideo dOgIUqr6]This fish is middle of the road in size and has been isolated from smaller fish but he wont be alone for long.
Over the weekend we had 46 mils of very much needed rain and as you can see the new ponds are starting to fill.
UPDATE: More rain today and I don’t think it is over yet here’s hoping.
[wpvideo E2JLTAFY]UPDATE .This is an incredible video it shows no sign of the fighting we are told blackfish meddle in, there fighting probably comes when defending a territory as they age ,
what a video to study there behaviour from, I will video there progress and post it here.
Because most fish farms /breeding facilities are a circuit(water goes around in a circuit) you must test the water. there are tests you should do regular and those not so much, ammonia is the one you must do, to much in the water and you will have dead fish, as you can see above my ammonia level is getting high not dangerous yet but it has the potential to be. the test kit in the right upper corner are available in all pet shops .If your ammonia gets to high stop feeding the fish and add clean water.
I have had hundreds of people visit the fish breeding facility some are locals some are fishing club members some are students who are studying the blackfish, we have had doctors vets and assorted professionals all showing a interest in these great fish .From left to right Craig, young Henry, John , Chris, and I am on the end. Craig is studying blackfish at the university of Tasmania hoping to get his PHD he and his family visited the fish breeding facility to learn as much about the fish as he can I hope he geos on and finishes his studies and throws more light on the problems facing these fish. Chris is the one with fluoro jacket on he has been invaluable to the success of the facility he brings much expertise to the table with his knowledge of native flora and fauna as well as determination to help these fish.
